Product reference depending on country ( different frequency

Messagede bottrader » 26 Nov 2012, 01:02

Hello ,

I am a bit lost when selecting a product that may depends on frequency , for exemple for RFCOM and Zwave .

Is it mandatory , as per country regulation , that a RFCOM 433mhz must be used only in Europe and not in US or Costa Rica , so 315 mhz must be used in US/Costa rica ?

My issue is that i have a house in France and one in Central America , so I want to clarify these frequencies issues before ordering automation products!

Thanks for your help.

433.92MHz is also used in the US. For example 433.92MHz Oregon Scientific sensors can be used in the US and Europe as they have an FCC and CE certification.
The RFXCOM transmitter is only CE certified and officially only allowed for use in Europe.
The RFXrec433 and RFXLAN receive only can be used in the US because it does not have a transmitter.

If a device contains a transmitter check if it has an FCC. This indicates it can be used in the US.

I have discussed with a costarician automation company about this issue ( for Zwave technology ) and the answer is "Z-Wave is not yet certified by Costa Rica's Superintendency of Telecommunications (SUTEL), however we use 904 Mhz since it's on the "free spectrum"."

Anyway it makes sence to use the US product as Costa Rica has the same electricity standard ( 110 volts , plugs)
